Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development has announced the opening of applications for the fifth edition of the “Qader” award, which provides free access to sports programs for people with disabilities through the “For All Capabilities” programme. The Foundation called on community members who, or a member of their family, were disabled, residing in the State of Qatar, and are four years old or older for swimming and five years old for football, to compete and win the award, provided that the applicant has not previously been nominated for the award, noting that Applications will be open until April 5th. The Qader Award, launched by Qatar Foundation in 2018, aims to provide people with disabilities with access to affordable sports programs, in addition to promoting mental and physical health, increasing self-confidence, and improving sleep quality through sports and physical activity. Mark Hughes, Director of Awsaj Academy, one of the schools operating under the umbrella of pre-university education in Qatar Foundation, stressed that everyone, regardless of their physical or material abilities, should have the opportunity to participate in sports and physical activity. Helping to break down barriers and ensuring that people with disabilities have equal opportunities to practice sports through the program “For All Capabilities”. Hughes added that the positive impact of the Able Award on the lives of individuals was evident during previous editions. Sport is a transformative tool, not only because it offers great physical benefits, but it can also be used to help acquire important life skills, including the ability to adapt to new circumstances and make decisions. independent. Hughes added that over the past four years, the Qadir Award has supported many individuals and families in Qatar, and in its previous sessions, 126 people have benefited from the award, expressing his aspiration to increase this number.
