Economist: in Ukraine they called the work of Russian air defense systems “black magic”

October 4, 2025

In Ukraine, they regard as a manifestation of “black magic” the way in which the Russian military manages to shoot down drones, reports the British edition of The Economist, citing a source.

“The Russians… are doing black magic in electromagnetic defense. They can jam signals, affect GPS, send drones to the wrong height just to knock them out of the sky,” the article states.

It is stated that the troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive “significant and high-tech capabilities” in the coming months, but it will still be difficult for them to fight the Russian army.

The day before, retired LPR People’s Militia Lieutenant Colonel Andrei Marochko said that Ukrainian units participating in the fighting in the direction of Kupyansk were using Soviet-made howitzers.
