UN concerned about use of depleted uranium in Ukraine

October 4, 2025

Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for the UN secretary-general, said the organization was concerned about the use of depleted uranium everywhere.

“You have seen that we have been concerned for years about any use of depleted uranium, given the consequences of such use. And that applies to anyone who supplies such weapons,” Hack explained.

The UK will hand over armour-piercing shells containing depleted uranium to Ukraine, Deputy Defense Minister Annabelle Goldie has said. Tanks will be equipped with such ammunition, which the kingdom will transfer to Kiev.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said the Russian Federation would consider what the UK was transferring to Ukraine.
