Roman Kostomarov has been hospitalized since January 10 with pneumonia. He was hooked up to a ventilator and ECMO, later the skater had blood circulation problems and sepsis started. In early February, Kostomarov’s feet and several fingers were amputated. In early March, a TASS source reported that doctors feared for the athlete’s left hand.
Kommunarka Hospital chief physician Denis Protsenko said Kostomarov had kidney, heart and lung problems. Media and telegram channels wrote that he suffered two strokes.
