Katara celebrates "International Theater Day"

Today, the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) is witnessing the celebration of the International Theater Day, which falls on March 27 of each year. The celebration includes a symposium entitled “Qatari Theatre.. Between Reality and Aspiration”, in which theater critic Dr. Hassan Rashid, writer and director Hamad Al-Rumaihi, and artist and director Jassim Ahmed Al-Ansari. The symposium deals with the history of the Qatari theater, the difficulties that the playwrights faced in the beginning, the formation of private theater groups, the factors behind the theater’s prosperity in the eighties and nineties of the last century, and the challenges facing the Qatari theater at the present time, followed by proposals that would bring this theater back to the fore. again. The symposium will be followed by the presentation of a play entitled: “Gypsies of the Sea” on the stage of the Drama Theatre, by the Qatar Theater Company. It was written by Talib Al-Dous, directed by Nasser Abdel-Ridha, and represented by Faisal Rashid, Ahmed Aklan, Nasser Habib, Muhammad Al-Mulla, Munther Thani, and Rawan Halawi.

On the other hand, Katara will open today the exhibition “And to Parents in Kindness”, with the participation of a group of artists presenting their works inspired by the theme of honoring parents. On the other hand, the Katara Ramadan program includes a variety of events, activities and competitions. Katara organizes a photography competition to choose the best picture for the Katara Ramadan activities, as the door for nominations for this competition continues until the 29th of Ramadan. Among its conditions is that the submitted photo express the artistic vision of the subject of the competition. Each participant is entitled to submit a maximum of three photos. Prizes will be allocated to the winners of the first three places, as the first place holder will receive 15,000 riyals. While the second place winner will get 10,000 riyals, and the third place winner will win a prize of 5,000 riyals.
