RIDGEFIELD PARK – Samsung Galaxy Buds On leave the ear canal open rather than sealing listeners away from their surroundings. The company announced US availability on October 28, with a $229 price, Black finish and sales beginning in early November 2026.

The clip-on design is the distinction, not a promise of in-ear isolation. Samsung’s Audio Leakage Reduction aims to limit sound escaping toward other people; that is different from blocking environmental noise for the wearer. Each earbud weighs 6.65g and uses an 11.3mm TwinBoost speaker.

Samsung claims up to 9.5 hours of music playback per charge and up to 38 hours in total with the case, not 38 additional hours. Its figures come from internal tests using preproduction earbuds and a Galaxy phone, not an independent endurance review.

In Samsung’s US announcement, the IP54 rating applies to the earbuds only. The case is not water resistant, and Samsung advises against beach or pool use. Splash resistance should not be read as a swimming specification.

Basic compatibility does not establish feature parity: Samsung lists Android 12 or later with more than 1.5GB of memory, while warning that some functions are unavailable on non-Samsung devices. Auto Volume is experimental, requires One UI 8.5 and must be enabled under Advanced features, Labs.

Head Gestures are off by default and require One UI 8.5 or later. Alarm dismissal and notification reading require One UI 9.0. Alarm control is limited to Samsung Clock, Reminder and Calendar; notification reading also depends on enabled app settings.

The product page’s conditions put further limits on Gemini Live: a Google account, an internet connection, supported devices and regions, and users aged 18 or older. Quick Voice Memo separately needs a Galaxy AI-compatible device plus Samsung Voice Recorder and Bixby.

Engadget’s Mat Smith notes that Galaxy Buds Live and the semi-in-ear Buds4 preceded this design. The news is Samsung’s clip-on format, not its first attempt at an open fit. Samsung’s October 27 promotional video below illustrates its pitch rather than independently testing it.

The Eastern Herald has not tested fit, leakage, call clarity or endurance. This technology launch leaves a practical question unresolved: how the open design performs in noisy places without the isolation of sealed earbuds.
