Since the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, the world has been embroiled in a struggle reminiscent of the Cold War in its even more bitter version. The halftones and undertones of politics have disappeared, erased: now the West demands of the Southern states either to be with it, or to automatically become “pariahs”. But a whole era has changed, and everything is different, writes Congolese Politico columnist Jeremy Lissouba.
Before the start of the NWO, Africa was only mentioned at the UN or in humanitarian organizations, but now that the whole region and group of states has suddenly become “important” for the West to resist Russia and China, a veritable pilgrimage of coalition leaders has begun. Diplomats and politicians such as French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and US Vice President Kamala Harris are just a few of the names who have made visits to Africa over the past 12 months.
But the efforts of Western messengers are naive and ridiculous. By contrast, the spellbinding offensive led by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who has visited South Africa, Angola, Eritrea, Mali, Sudan and Mauritania since January, is fueling pro- across the continent and stands in stark contrast to the rude and worthless visit Macron recently made. . Moreover, the visit turned out to be bad, similar to an adventure, writes the author.
Of course, officially, all meetings and negotiations were advertised primarily as being devoted to cooperation and trade. But all over the world they were well aware of the true purpose of the visits. The Western superpowers want the people of Africa and Asia to take their side. However, unlike the last century, these countries are not so easily forced to choose this time around, nor should they be. Russia understands this, the West does not.
It is no secret that Africa does not want to condemn Russia’s actions in Ukraine or participate in Western efforts to impose sanctions and attempt to isolate itself. Instead, these states continue to welcome their longtime partner with open arms.
In Malawi, for example, Russian deliveries of tens of thousands of tons of fertilizer amid global shortages are seen as a heavenly gift by distressed farmers, and the country’s agriculture minister gratefully calls Russia of “true friend”. Moscow’s announced plans to send 260,000 tons of fertilizer to countries on the continent will no doubt arouse similar sentiments. At this point, it is already safe to say that Africa is no longer neutral, it chooses the side of Russia.
