Russian “Skif” satellites will provide Internet to the North Pole from 2026

March 31, 2023

In 2026, satellite Internet will appear at the North Pole. This was stated in the press service of the non-profit partnership “Glonass”.
“From 2026, Russians will be able to use the Internet at the North Pole. As part of the Sphere project, the state corporation Roscosmos will provide high-speed Internet access in the Arctic zone,” RIA Novosti reported.
To do this, the Skif satellites will be launched into orbit at an altitude of 8070 kilometers above the Earth. With their help, telephony, high-speed Internet and Internet of Things services will be available at the North Pole.
As the press service said, there is now practically no Internet at the North Pole. You can only contact the mainland using a satellite phone, which allows you to call and write short SMS. If you combine several of these devices, you will be able to connect to the Internet, but it will work slowly and it will be expensive.
Earlier, Zvezda told about a unique expedition conducted 85 years ago by Soviet scientists led by Ivan Papanin. It was the world’s first scientific expedition on a drifting pack ice.Post-Russian satellites “Skif” will provide Internet to the North Pole from 2026
