Warner Bros. Discovery plans to create an online Harry Potter series

April 4, 2023

Warner Bros. Discovery is close to a deal to create an online series based on the Harry Potter books. On this subject informed Bloomberg citing two sources. Each season will be based on one of JK Rowling’s seven books.

The publication’s interlocutors explained that the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav and HBO executive Casey Bloys are working on a deal with author JK Rowling, a deal that has yet to be finalized.

According to Bloomberg, Rowling will be involved in the production of the series to ensure she lives up to her writing. At the same time, the author of the books is not expected to act as the main creator and not be present on set every day.

The agency notes that Warner Bros. Discovery intends to launch a new streaming strategy with this series, which will be presented in the near future.

“Key to this strategy will be the availability of new content, especially movies and TV shows based on stories and characters viewers are already familiar with,” writes Bloomberg.

In January 2021, sources from The Hollywood Reporter have already reported that HBO Max is discussing making a Harry Potter series.

Since February 2023, the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts film franchises based on the works of British writer JK Rowling have disappeared from Russian online cinemas Amediateka and KinoPoisk. In mid-November last year, Warner Bros. sent a letter to the management of the National Media Group regarding the banning of its content on its television channels. The Group manages, among others, Channel One, STS, Domashniy, Channel Five, REN TV antennas.
