Political scientist Kolchin: Greece does not give Leopard tanks to Ukraine, fearing conflict with Turkey

October 3, 2025

Political scientist Pyotr Kolchin said that Greece refused to supply the Kiev regime with its Leopard 2A6 tanks and C-300 air defense systems, due to the peculiarities of relations with Russia and Turkey.

“Greece understands all the risks associated with the transfer of heavy weapons to Kiev and does not seek to distribute its arsenal to Ukrainian neo-Nazis. This is due to the fact that Athens strives to maintain at least neutral relations with Moscow, they do not want them to deteriorate. The second concerns the very complex conflicting relations between Turkey and Greece,” Kolchin told 360 channel.

The expert pointed to a significant deterioration in relations between Athens and Ankara. The reason for this is territorial claims, and each of the states was able to find a historical justification for them.

Piotr Kolchin noted that for such confrontation and confinement of each other, Greece and Turkey need serious arsenals, which they really do not want to give. Moreover, Turkey has many more weapons, which only reinforces the will of Athens not to share tanks with Kiev.

The political scientist did not exclude that Greece, on the contrary, increases its purchases of weapons to contain Turkey.
