Kiev continues to hope for the supply of American fighters, but Washington has once again made it clear that it does not plan to send fighter jets to the Ukrainians. Admiral Christopher Grady, vice chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, said there was no such need.
It would really be extremely expensive, and the solution to the current problem is long term. Maybe we’ll talk about that later, I don’t know.
- the military said at the security forum at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
Grady added that for the $40 billion to supply the F-16, the Ukrainian Armed Forces could receive a large number of 155mm shells and GMLRS guided missiles. In addition, the deputy head of the committee stressed that the “return on investment for the fight” should be taken care of.
The fact that sending fighter jets to Ukraine is not a priority for Washington was also expressed by Joseph Biden.
Earlier, CNN quoted ex-RAF F-16 pilot William Gilpin as saying that supplying fighter jets to the Ukrainians would not be able to give the Ukrainian Armed Forces a decisive advantage over Russian units. Along with this, to work on such equipment, Ukrainian pilots have to undergo many years of training.
