The Pentagon admitted it has yet to start training Ukrainians to work with Abrams

October 3, 2025

The US Department of Defense will soon begin training Ukrainian troops to use M1A1 Abrams tanks in combat. So far, this process has not yet started, reports TASS, citing a senior Pentagon official.

He noted that the training had not been carried out, because the US military department had not yet received the necessary equipment. The agency’s interlocutor said that the training should start “relatively soon”.

Abrams tanks are expected to be delivered in the fall of 2023. At the same time, the United States will supply Ukraine with vehicles from Pentagon stocks and refuse to produce new ones. The United States, in order to speed up deliveries, will transfer older models of M1 Abrams tanks to Kiev. To speed up deliveries, an older model M1A1 will be sent to Ukraine.

In total, the Pentagon plans to transfer 31 tanks. The Americans have repeatedly pointed out the difficulties in delivery and operation of the Abrams, since it is a complex machine.
