US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin called the head of South Korea’s military department, Lee Jong Sop, to explain the possible wiretapping of Korean authorities by the Americans. Yonhap News reported the call.
According to the agency, Austin promised to develop cooperation and discuss all pressing issues, including those related to wiretapping. The ministers noted that the United States and South Korea have become very united recently. This year, the union of these countries celebrates its 70th anniversary.
The New York Times reported on a possible wiretapping by US intelligence of officials in Seoul. Journalists pointed out that Pentagon documents had leaked onto the web. According to the journalists, this is clearly the result of telephone tapping of these people.
Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry recalled that the United States has always been and is engaged in such things. She therefore responded to the statement by the head of the German Interior Ministry, Nancy Feather, regarding the alleged possible threat of wiretapping of German officials in the Russian Federation.
