Singer Katy Perry is currently one of the judges for American Idol. This drew attention in the final episode when fans booed the singer after she slammed a contestant.
Katy suggested contestant Nutsa relax in the glitter, but the contestant had just finished her performance of the song Paris, originally from Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.
“Nutsa, every time you step on stage, it’s like you’re exploding a glitter bomb on stage. Listen to me, all I want from you is that next time you don’t wear anything brilliant. I know this will be difficult for you.
Afterwards, many onlookers could be heard booing and giving Katy the thumbs down. “Wow, scum,” said judge Lionel Richie. Another judge, Luke Bryan, agreed and seemed quite amused by the remarks: “Yes! Katy got hit. It was built on Katy.”
“Okay, it’s the first time in these six series. Jibbí,” Katy replied then. She then redirected the words to Nutsu. “What I’m saying is I want you to change. I think we also want to be moved with our hearts, and I’d love to see that and America probably too.”
Nutsa agreed with Katy and promised to be more sincere in her performance next time.
Nutsa was one of 13 remaining contestants in the ongoing competition. She appreciates the advice of Noah Cyrus who encouraged Nutsu to focus on his singing and not on his stage presence. However, Nutsa seemed to have let the advice fly over her ears and was between trips while she performed the song.
This isn’t the first time Katy Perry and Nutsu have met in the competition. In one episode, it was revealed that Nutsa had fallen asleep when another contestant, who was supposed to duet with her, wanted to continue training. There was a drama and Katy Perry then told Nutsu that she should have a little more dignity in the competition.
Nutsa later explained her case to the judges with tears in her eyes and said she didn’t speak up when it came to it because she just froze and didn’t want to be negative. She then apologised.
Afterward, Katy hugged her and said she connected with her because they’re both tough women who want to stand up and don’t take criticism to heart.
