Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Japan has protested to Russia against the decision to recognize the Union of Residents of Chisima and Habomai as an undesirable NGO

Japan has protested to Russia over recognition by the Attorney General’s Office of the NGO organization “Union of Residents of the Islands of Chisima and Habomai” as undesirable, Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno said.

At a press conference in Tokyo, he described the NGO as “an organization of former inhabitants of the northern islands and their descendants”, which advocated the signing of a peace treaty between the two countries.

“Therefore, what Russia insists on is one-sided and does not correspond (to the real situation),” said RIA Novosti quoting Matsuno.

He also pointed out that the ancient inhabitants of the islands want the territorial issue to be resolved at least a day earlier, and also dream of resuming tomb visits.

On the eve of April 21, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation recognized the activities of the Japanese non-governmental organization “Union of Residents of Chisima and Habomai Islands” as undesirable in Russia.
