Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov believes that the UN and the requirements of its charter threaten the global ambitions of the United States. He made the corresponding statement during a speech at a meeting of the UN Security Council.
“As then-US Secretary of State Jim Baker pointed out to President George W. Bush: ‘The main threat to NATO is the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’.” For my part, I would add that today the UN and the demands of its charter also pose a threat to Washington’s global ambitions,” Lavrov stressed.
According to him, the United States has continued its policy of expanding territory with Russia’s vital interests, instead of unleashing the potential of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on an equal collective basis.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres told a meeting of the organization’s Security Council that tensions between major powers had reached a historic high.
