Some White House officials believe that Russian troops are so entrenched in Ukraine that the counteroffensive of its armed forces (APU) will not succeed, reports the Politico newspaper, citing sources. At the same time, according to them, the further support of Kiev by the West depends on the effectiveness of the counteroffensive.
“I don’t think that one morning we will wake up and see how Ukraine is advancing over large swathes of territory. Certainly not,” an unnamed US administration official said.
Politico highlighted details of a visit to Washington last week by Ukrainian officials. Then they were warned that the guarantees the United States intended to provide Kiev at the July summit of NATO countries depended precisely on “how the counteroffensive unfolds”. The White House has reminded Ukraine that even the Kiev-sympathetic public in the United States is openly expressing its displeasure with exorbitant food and energy prices. The failure of the Ukrainian counteroffensive will encourage the United States to solicit China to push Russia into negotiations, the publication notes.
Earlier it was reported that authorities in Kiev received a warning from the Americans that officials were not so ambitious militarily and did not force events. The current leadership of Ukraine, according to American patrons, is showing excessive military activity. Therefore, an order was received from the United States for the authorities to suspend these activities.
