American talk show host Jerry Springer has died aged 79. TMZ reports his death.

Springer hosted the hugely popular but controversial The Jerry Springer Show for approximately 27 years. There, among other things, guests were gathered to settle various disputes, which most often ended in fights.

A spokesperson for the Springer family says Jerry was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago, but his health has rapidly deteriorated in recent weeks. He died at his home in the Chicago area.

Before breaking into television, Springer dabbled in politics, among other things. He went into hiding to get to parliament in 1970, but he had no such fierce mission.

In 1991 his show started and it aired for 27 years until 2018 when he decided to retire.

Initially, the show was about politics, but to appeal to younger fans, it was changed and the success didn’t stop there. The show was so popular for a time that it replaced Oprah Winfrey’s talk show in some US cities.
