Nasser Al-Attiyah wins the Rally Mexico title…and leads the World Rally Championship

Qatari driver Nasser Al-Attiyah was crowned the International Rally Mexico title "Sonora"which constitutes the third round of the new World Rally Championship (RAID), which was introduced by the International Automobile Federation last year, after it maintained the lead in the general standings after its second place in the fifth and final stage that was held today.

Al-Attiyah, the holder of the new World Rally Championship title and champion of the Dakar Rally five times, accompanied by his French navigator, finished the Mexican rally in first place, with a total time of 10.29.55 hours, and a difference of 6.22 minutes from his closest competitor, the Saudi driver Yazid Al-Rajhi, accompanied by his German navigator, Timo Gottschalk, who finished second. Argentine Sebastian Halperin, accompanied by his navigator and compatriot Edu Polenta, came in third place, 14.18 minutes behind Al-Attiyah.

The Qatari driver finished second today during the fifth and final stage of the 139-kilometre rally, one minute behind Saudi Yazid Al-Rajhi, who finished first with a time of 1.13.45 hours, while Argentine Sebastian Halperin finished third, 2.24 minutes behind the lead. Al-Attiyah presented a distinguished performance in the Rally Mexico throughout its five stages, and managed to win the first and fourth stages, and occupy second place in the second and fifth stages, and third place in the third stage.

The Qatari driver benefited from his results in the Mexican rally and won the title, and took the lead in the general standings of the new World Rally Championship (RAID), which he holds the title, as he raised his score to 136 points, 35 points ahead of his most prominent competitor for the French title, former leader Sebastien Loeb, who withdrew. From Rally Mexico after an accident. and marked the International Rally Mexico "Sonora"which joined the new World Rally Championship for the first time this season, with a mixture of terrain that combines challenging desert landscapes, ranging from fast sections to sandy tracks and rocky outcrops, which challenged the competitors to test their navigational skills and adaptability. as well as vehicle performance.
