German Foreign Ministry announces the return of some Russian diplomats to Berlin

– Published on:

The German Foreign Ministry announced the return to Berlin from Russia of some of the employees of German diplomatic missions, without specifying their number. This was announced on May 1 in the department.

The ministry recalled that in mid-March part of the employees of Russian diplomatic missions left Germany. It is alleged that their activities “did not correspond to diplomatic status”.

“The Russian government, for its part, has asked a similar number of employees of German missions to leave the country. They left Russia today, May 1,” the German Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

In April, Berlin decided on a new mass expulsion of employees of Russian diplomatic missions. Later it became clear that we are talking about more than 20 diplomats.

The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the expulsion of Russian diplomats and said these actions defiantly destroy the entire bilateral relationship. Moscow opted for a mirror response.
