Russia must leave Ukraine

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Russia should leave Ukraine.

McCarthy has denounced Moscow for “murdering children” and distanced himself from some members of his Republican Party who oppose massive additional US aid to Ukraine to repel a Russian invasion.

McCarthy announced it in Israel, where he arrived as part of his first visit abroad as a lecturer.

He strongly emphasized his support for Ukraine and dismissed suggestions that he did not support sending military and financial aid to Kiev.

“I vote to help Ukraine. I support aid to Ukraine,” McCarthy said, responding to a question from a Russian reporter.

“I don’t support what your country has done with Ukraine. I don’t support the murders of children committed by you,” the speaker continued. “You have to go.”

“We will continue to support because the rest of the world sees it for what it is,” he said.

McCarthy came to Jerusalem leading a bipartisan delegation of US lawmakers. This is his first trip abroad as the new president, and his speech in the Israeli Knesset will be the first speaker of the House of Representatives in 25 years.

Congress will soon have to reconsider a request for a major bailout for Ukraine, and McCarthy will have to guide Republican policy in the debate, especially given the stance of Donald Trump supporters who have spoken out against foreign spending to counter the aggression of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Ukraine.

Previously as party leader, McCarthy said Ukraine would not receive a “blank cheque”, but then insisted that as president he would support US efforts to counter Russia while working to oversee the use of US taxpayers’ money overseas. .
