Syria: Israel targets Aleppo International Airport, 1 soldier killed

Beirut: Israel carried out airstrikes targeting the international airport in the Syrian city of Aleppo, killing a Syrian soldier. Airport operations have come to a standstill following the attack. Government media has given this information. A Syrian state news agency quoted a military official as saying that two civilians and five other soldiers were wounded in the attack. The official said Israel also carried out airstrikes targeting several locations around Aleppo. At present, the Israeli authorities have not issued any statement regarding these attacks.

Significantly, this airport is very important for reaching relief materials and other help in the country after the severe earthquake in Turkey and Syria on February 6. More than 50 thousand people were killed in the earthquake, of which more than six thousand people were killed in Syria. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the strike targeted an arms storage facility. The organization also said that Israel also targeted a military air base in a remote area of Aleppo, although Syrian state media did not give any details in this regard.
