Russian oil and its products began to play a dominant role in supplying Brazil, crowding out US exports from there. Thus, in February, sales of these goods from the United States to Brazil fell to the lowest level in the last seven years.
The United States exported about 6.1 million barrels of black gold to Brazil in February, less than last year’s monthly average, according to the US Department of Energy. Delivery rates of petroleum products from the United States and to other countries in the region are falling. Thus, 2.6 million tons of petroleum products were sold to Colombia, which has become something of an anti-record in the last two years.
At the same time, Russia is increasing its sales of hydrocarbons on world markets, despite Western sanctions. So, in the same month of February, the Russian Federation shipped 1.5 million barrels of diesel fuel only to Brazil, while there were no such sales a year ago.
At the same time, the volume of oil and oil product deliveries to Brazil has been increased by India, which has long bought Russian oil at a discount and resold its products in other markets. Brazilians received about 2.5 million barrels of diesel and jet fuel from India in February, according to the Indian Trade Office.
According to the Argus agency, in April the volume of deliveries of Russian energy resources to Brazil could reach 4.5 million barrels. This represents 53% of all diesel fuel supplied to Brazil.
