Former President Trump’s lawsuit against The New York Times has been dismissed by a New York Supreme Court judge.
The lawsuit was filed in September 2021. In the document, Donald Trump claimed the newspaper allegedly persuaded Mary Trump, the former president’s niece, to remove classified information from his personal attorney’s office. Trump also insisted that the girl had already signed confidentiality documents, and nevertheless agreed to cooperate with the newspaper anyway.
Trump accused reporters of deliberately sabotaging his personal life and work. However, Judge Robert Reid dismissed the charges and justified them on the right of journalists to participate in the gathering of information on public figures. Under the First Amendment to the US Constitution, journalists have the right to participate in news gathering without fear of civil liability. The decision in the Mary Trump case has not yet been made, the newspaper notes.
