UAE joins Shanghai Cooperation Organization as dialogue partner

The granting of “Dialogue Partner” status embodies the UAE’s ongoing efforts to maintain and develop balanced and diverse partnerships with countries and multilateral organizations around the world.

In light of the UAE’s partnership with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, highlighted the important role the organization has played over the past decades to support political stability and economic prosperity throughout Eurasia and beyond. .

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation affirmed the UAE’s strong commitment to pluralism as an active member of the international community, noting that the country realizes the crucial importance of organizations, such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, in building bridges of cooperation between member states. towards the achievement of common goals.

He added, “In the coming period, the UAE will seek to take effective steps in its partnership with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and its member states. We are pleased to join as a dialogue partner in an organization whose global influence and importance continues to grow.”

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization was established in June 2001. The main objectives of the organization are to strengthen relations between member states, promote cooperation in political affairs, economy and trade, science, culture, education, energy, transport, tourism and environmental protection, to maintain regional peace, security and stability and to establish an equitable international political and economic order. The member states of the organization are China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
