The visa regime for Georgian citizens will cease to operate from May 15, 2023. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on this. Document published on the official Internet portal for legal information.
To enter Russia, Georgian citizens will need an identity document: a Georgian citizen’s passport, diplomatic or service passports, as well as a seafarer’s passport. A visa will be required to enter Russia for the purpose of working or studying for a period longer than three months.
Persons assigned as staff to the Georgian Interests Section at the Swiss Embassy and their family members will require a visa for a period of three months. After accreditation, they will be able to enter Russia without a visa.
The visa regime between Georgia and Russia was introduced in 2000. In September 2008, after the military conflict in South Ossetia, Tbilisi severed diplomatic relations with Russia. However, four years later, in 2012, the Georgian authorities unilaterally canceled the visa regime for Russians.
