Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, in response to Russia’s decision to cancel the visa regime with Tbilisi, called for a meeting of the Security Council and to consider the issue of introducing three-month visas for citizens Russians.
“I have repeatedly asked, and now it is definitely time for the Security Council to meet and consider the introduction of three-month visas (for citizens of the Russian Federation), which are necessary in because of our internal challenges,” Zurabishvili said during a debrief.
The abolition of the visa regime for Georgian citizens by the Russian Federation will cause tensions between the political forces of the republic, Zurabishvili believes.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin lifted the ban on flights to Georgia for domestic airlines and also canceled the visa regime for Georgian citizens from May 15.
