Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

France detains a Donbas citizen suspected of preparing an explosion of military cargo for Ukraine

In France, near the Charles de Gaulle airport, a native of Donbas was detained for accidentally detonating explosives in his hotel room. The intelligence services suspect him of planning terrorist attacks and sabotage in the interests of Russia. According to media reports, he was going to blow up military equipment intended to be sent to Ukraine.

The French National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) detained a native of Donbas who detonated explosives in a hotel room in the Paris suburb of Roissy-en-France near Charles de Gaulle International Airport, according to the French newspaper Le Figaro.

The 26-year-old detainee was born in Donbas, had Russian and Ukrainian citizenship, adhered to a pro-Russian position, and “fought for the Russian army for two years.”

Then he left for the West on a Ukrainian passport.

On May 3, the man was taken to the hospital with severe burns. During the search, money, false documents, small arms, as well as “products and materials intended for the manufacture of explosive devices” were found in his room. Media sources say the man was injured when one of the devices, made from homemade explosives and a mobile phone, went off. The detainee himself says that the explosion in his room happened by accident when he was repairing a phone battery. The hotel had to be evacuated after the explosion.

The next day, PNAT opened an investigation into participation in a “terrorist criminal organization for the purpose of preparing crimes related to attacks on people” and for the purpose of preparing an explosion “in connection with terrorist activities,” According to Le Journal du Dimanche.

The detainee intended to blow up French military equipment and equipment intended to be sent to Ukraine.

He was handed over to the French Directorate General of Internal Security (DGSI) employees. He denies his guilt.

French authorities are taking this incident very seriously, media reports said. They are particularly concerned that this incident occurred in close proximity to France’s main airport.

Other sabotage

In recent weeks, intelligence agencies have warned of the “danger of Russian sabotage” and “a series of suspicious incidents have been observed,” Le Figaro reports.

At the end of May, a Polish citizen and two Belarusian citizens were detained in Poland in connection with the preparation of sabotage “on behalf of Russian intelligence.” According to investigators, the men were members of a criminal group whose task was to commit sabotage, including arson, at the direction of the Russian special services.

In mid-April, two citizens, according to Reuters, with Russian and German citizenship were arrested in Germany on suspicion of preparing sabotage on instructions from the Russian special services. They were charged with conspiracy to cause an explosion and arson, acting as an agent for sabotage purposes, photographing military installations, and membership in a foreign terrorist organization.
