After the “requests crisis”…an important tip for Facebook users

– Published on:

In their interview with Sky News Arabia, the two experts attributed what happened to a “technical fault” following the updates, and advised users to take several precautions to protect them, just in case. would continue for some time or was repeated.

What happened the last hours?

• On Friday, social networking sites were abuzz with complaints from Facebook users about the automatic sending of friend requests to people, amid fears by users of “breaking privacy rules”.

• The problem began on “Facebook” worldwide since Thursday 7 p.m., and users complained of their inability to access the application, in particular the mobile version, according to the site down detector, which specializes in monitoring sites and applications and their malfunctions.

• According to the website, 65% of complaints relate to issues with the mobile app, 26% of issues relate to the website, while 9% of reported issues relate to the inability to access Facebook in general.

A loophole could lead to chaos

Technology and information security expert Mahmoud Farag pointed out that periodic updates by Facebook cause unintended technical issues.

Due to this flaw, the “send friend request” process occurs when a user searches or logs into another user’s personal page account, and at that time, the ” add a friend” is automatically activated.

Innovation and digital transformation consultant Muhammad Khalif adds that what happened is a “recoverable failure” following the updates, but if this failure continues, it means there will be privacy issues , because “the platform does not have the right to send a friend request on behalf of the user.”

This update brings to light a “loophole” that could allow chaos regarding platform security.

The solution is in front of the users

To protect privacy, the two experts offer Facebook users these tips:

• Do not try to search for strangers.

• Review friends on your personal account to see if you received a friend by mistake or not.

• Remove someone you don’t know.

• People who have received friend requests should not accept them, because they do not fall into the problem of hacking the account.

• The need to monitor from time to time changes to confidentiality agreements related to the use of platforms in general.
