Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

77-Year-Old Finally Had A Dream Wedding When She Wed – ‘I’m So Happy’

“It’s something new for me,” says Dorothy Fideli, who previously married in a brief courthouse ceremony in 1965.

Dorothy “Dottie” Fideli, 77, celebrated self-love when she married for the second time, this time to herself, in a unique wedding ceremony at O’Bannon Terrace, where Fideli lives in a community of elderly people.

Fideli said in an interview that she was nervous, but at the same time excited for the big day. “It’s something new for me. It’s emotional for me, because it’s something I’ve always wanted,” says Fideli, who has three children with her first husband.

They married in a brief courthouse ceremony in 1965, but divorced nine years later. “I was wearing a black dress, so I was judged before the wedding started.” I’ve been with myself for 40 years,” she said in the interview, adding that she realized she wanted to do something special for herself.

Although Fideli feared it was too late to have the wedding of her dreams, she changed her mind after considering the idea of getting married with her neighbors, who saw a woman doing something similar in a talk show.

“Now I have another chance to do something that makes me happy,” Fideli said. Having spent most of her life caring for her children and grandchildren, she is delighted that life revolves only around her. “It’s my turn to do what I feel like doing.”

Fideli’s daughter, Donna Pennington, helped her mother find a dress, cooked food for the event, and decorated the nursing home’s community room with balloon arches and other items.

“I said to my daughter, ‘This is the best thing I’ve ever had, other than having you kids. It’s what I always wanted and I’m so glad you gave it to me.”
