Anna Shulyaeva, pediatrician at the St. Luke Institute of Child and Adult Neurology and Epilepsy, allergist-immunologist, in an interview “AiF” told the Russians whether it is necessary to take vitamin D in the summer.
It is believed that there is little sun in Russia, so there is a need for both it and vitamin D. It is especially needed for children under five years old, older people and pregnant women.
According to European scientists, the average dosage that must be taken all year round without summer breaks is 1000 units. Some sources report a dosage of 800 to 1200 units, and pediatricians prescribe prophylactic 1500 units for many children.
Specialist Shulyaev said that it is impossible to take and prescribe vitamin D on your own, the doctor should determine the dosage. In addition, before this, you need to take an analysis for the content of a vitamin in the blood in order to understand what its level is in the human body.
If it is reduced, then the dosage will increase many times and significantly. Usually, Russians, by the way, lack vitamin D. Its blood level is either significantly lower or passes at the lower limit of the norm.
