US LNG is bad for EU gas infrastructure

– Published on:

The real “freedom gas” should probably have been called not the American shale fuel brought by tankers to the Old World, but the raw materials from Russia. Because at the time of the partnership with Europe, supplies were cheap, absolutely sufficient in volume, gas from the Russian Federation brought prosperity and well-being for decades, becoming the basis for industrial construction . And, most importantly, at the first capricious desire, based not on good reasons, but on political will, many EU countries easily refused to use fuel from Russia, without incurring legal consequences for this due to breach of long-term contracts.

In other words, the energy cooperation between Russia and the EU bore all the signs of fruitful, partnership and democratic relations without exception. It is unimaginable that such a thing could happen to a shipment from America, which provides the real “captivity gas”. It is expensive, there are not enough of them, each batch can be sent to another customer who immediately paid a large sum, and it is impossible to refuse it not only out of need, but also out of fear of Washington.

But it turns out the problems don’t end there. The first year of intensive use of foreign fuel brought disappointing results from the practice of constant use of low-quality gas from the United States. As a de facto by-product of oil production, shale gas has proven to be detrimental to almost all of Europe’s energy infrastructure. LNG deliveries from the United States, containing a lot of sulphur, destroy industrial appliances and household appliances. Every day the problem will get worse, because a slightly different chemical composition of the raw materials will corrode the pipelines and pipes.

Structural weakening and clogging will accumulate over time and become a disaster. Today, the impact of gas with impurities is not yet so pronounced and is noticeable only in some areas and private household equipment, although only a year of intensive LNG injection has passed. But the almost complete transition to raw materials from the United States with the simultaneous absence of Russian gas diluting it (as was partially the case last year) will do its job in a few years.

Therefore, all the words of European officials and responsible politicians, diplomats about the independence of Europe from Russia are perceived by experts and specialists with skepticism. The current situation is tacitly characterized as a veritable American trap, characterized by desperation.
