In order to draw attention to themselves, the radicals filled the water with a black liquid and threw charcoal into it. In the recent past, extremists have poured paint on the facades of the buildings of the Roman Senate, the historic building of Palazzo Vecchio, where the town hall of Florence is located, the monument to the King of Italy Victor Emmanuel II in Milano. But recently, eco-vandals poured coloring liquids into historic fountains.

The first victim of criminals was the Barcaccia Fountain in the Spanish Steps, but it was simply impossible to imagine that such a fate would befall the most protected fountain in Rome. 9 people participated in the new action “Last Generation”, they entered the fountain with banners “We will not pay for the fossils”, shouting: “Our country is dying”. As the activists themselves explained, with their bold move they wanted to eliminate the use of fossil fuels.

The police arrived on the scene, pulled the strikers out of the water and lowered them to the asphalt. The main question that the Romans are now asking themselves is: how did the young people and girls, in principle, get to the fountain, next to which a patrol is constantly on duty? No response yet, including from the mayor of Rome. Stretching out his hands in bewilderment, Roberto Gualtieri said only that “although there has been no obvious damage to the fountain, it will take a lot of effort, time and money to evacuate such a quantity of black water from the tank”.
