Scientists have identified a previously unknown sign indicating heart disease in women

– Published on:

A study presented at the Heart Failure 2023 scientific conference found that people who use diuretics often suffer from heart failure, which can lead to an increased risk of death.

Scientists from the University of Glasgow found that this association is especially pronounced in women.

Almost 200 thousand patients from Scotland became the object of analysis by scientists. The study found that people who took loop diuretics at the start of the study were almost 4 times more likely to be diagnosed with heart failure (11%) over the next five years than people who did not take the drug.

At the end of the study, about 35 thousand people died, which is 18% of the total number of patients. Among them, 23% were found to have heart failure, and 32% of them were found to have used loop diuretics despite not being diagnosed with heart failure. Such information can be extracted from the source, writes Gazeta.ru.
