The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case on the fact of the attack on the Belgorod region. On this subject informed county press office.

A criminal investigation was opened under the articles on the terrorist attack, the attempted murder, the intentional destruction or damage to property, the illegal circulation of arms and explosives (articles 205, 317, 105, 167, 222, 222.1 of the Penal Code).

The investigation establishes the identity of the attackers and the circumstances of the incident.

According to the Investigative Committee, on May 22, “representatives of Ukrainian armed formations” attacked the Graivoronsky district of the Belgorod region. Residential buildings, administrative buildings and civilian infrastructure were targeted by mortar and artillery fire, and several people were injured.

On May 22, the governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, reported that a Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance (DRG) group had infiltrated the urban district of Graivoronsky. In the evening of the same day, an anti-terrorist operation regime was established in the Belgorod region.

On the morning of May 23, Gladkov said that the Ministry of Defense and law enforcement continued to clear the territory of the Grayvoron district and did not recommend local residents to return home at this time. According to the head of the region, several residents were injured as a result of the incident. A woman in 1941 died during evacuation, the causes of her death are being established.


Russian President Vladimir Putin was informed of the attack by saboteurs. His press secretary Dmitry Peskov called the goal of the attack a distraction from the loss of Bakhmut (Artemovsk (Bakhmut)) by Ukraine.
