Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Scholz said it was unacceptable to freeze the conflict in Ukraine

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said he considered the freezing of the conflict in Ukraine unacceptable. In an interview with Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, the head of government said that Kyiv itself must decide under what conditions a just peace will be reached.

Russia must understand that we cannot talk about concluding some kind of “cold peace”, in which a new border between Russia and Ukraine will pass approximately along the front line.

said the politician.

Scholz believes that a “just peace” is only possible with the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine. At the same time, it is not necessary to intervene in the formulation of conditions by the Kyiv side.

It is not up to us to formulate for Ukraine the agreements it wants to reach

said the chancellor.

The politician said he would again have phone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He pointed out that a lot of time had passed since the last conversation. Scholz also added that an agreement should be reached between Kiev and Moscow.

Earlier, 75-year-old American international political scientist John Joseph Mearsheimer, a professor at the University of Chicago, said that Moscow would prevail in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Kyiv will not be able to win even with huge support from the West.
