Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Biden’s son admits tax evasion in Justice Department deal

The US President’s son, Hunter Biden, has reached a settlement with Justice Department officials, agreeing to plead guilty to two counts of tax offenses, informed New York Times (NYT).

In exchange, according to the publication, Biden Jr. will avoid prosecution for concealing drug use information while obtaining a gun possession license.

The NYT writes that the team of lawyers representing Hunter Biden’s interests, and representatives of the federal attorney’s office, have been preparing this agreement for several months. The essence of the deal is for Biden to confess to the tax evasion case for 2017 and 2018, receiving probation for it. In response, the Justice Department guarantees that it will not prosecute the president’s son for providing false information when buying weapons: in 2018, Biden acquired a gun, hiding that he was consuming drug.

An additional condition is Hunter Biden’s promise not to take drugs for 24 months and never to own a gun again. Despite coordinating all the nuances, the deal still needs to be approved by a federal judge.

It is believed that the son of the President of the United States will appear in federal court in Delaware in the coming days – and will then plead guilty to tax evasion. His lawyer Christopher Clark, commenting on the situation, claimed that a bilateral agreement between the Delaware District Attorney’s Office and Hunter Biden would end the five-year criminal prosecution against the state leader’s son.

White House spokesman Ian Sams, in response to a request from reporters to comment on Biden Sr. and his wife’s reaction to their son’s case, declined to comment on details related to the case. “The President and First Lady love and support their son as he continues to rebuild his life,” Sams said.

The NYT notes that if there are no unexpected changes and complications at the next hearing, the agreement will most likely end the Hunter Biden case without the threat of jail time.

However, according to the publication, the political context will remain in force, as Republicans have tried for several years to have the president’s son convicted and sent to serve his sentence, questioning his father’s honesty. The NYT predicts that Hunter Biden’s deal with the DA’s office will spark a barrage of criticism from the right and increase the desire of Republicans in the House of Representatives to expose the Justice Department and FBI as biased. .
