Sri Lanka beat Ireland by 133 runs

New Delhi. In the 15th match of the World Cup Qualifiers 2023, the Sri Lankan cricket team defeated the Ireland cricket team by 133 runs. This is Sri Lanka’s third consecutive win. In the match played at the Queens Sports Club, Sri Lanka, batting first, scored 325 runs losing all wickets with the help of Dimuth Karunaratne’s century (103). In response, Ireland’s team was all out for just 192 runs.

Playing first after losing the toss, Sri Lanka lost their 2 wickets for 48 runs. After this, Karunaratne scored a century and shared a 168-run partnership with Samarawickrama (82) to take the team to a big one. After the fall of these two wickets, Sri Lanka quickly lost the rest of their wickets. In response, Harry Tector (33) and Curtis Campher (39) fought for Ireland, but could not win.

Karunaratne, who came to open the innings, batted somewhat slowly in the beginning.

He shared a 48-run partnership for the first wicket with Pathum Nissanka to give the team a steady start. Karunaratne, batting in good rhythm, completed his maiden century in 100 balls. He played an inning of 103 runs in 103 balls with the help of 8 fours. This is the first century of his ODI career.

Left-handed batsman Karunaratne completed 1,000 ODI runs in his 40th match. He has become the 35th Sri Lankan player to touch this figure. Meanwhile, he has left behind his own countryman Brendan Kuruppu in terms of runs.

Right-handed batsman Samarawickrama scored 82 runs in 86 balls while batting at a strike rate of 95.35. He also scored 4 fours in this innings. This is the third half-century of his ODI career. Along with this, it has become the best score of his ODI career so far.

Leg break bowler Wanindu Hasaranga has continued his amazing form. He took his first wicket of the day, lbw the opposition captain Andrew Balbirnie (12). He then took the wickets of Tector (33), Gareth Delany (19) and Mark Adair (4). After this he showed the way to the pavilion to Joshua Little (20). He took 5 wickets in 10 overs giving 79 runs at an economy rate of 7.9.
