Shift Up has marked the Nintendo Switch 2 launch of Stellar Blade with a live-action ad that drops its heroine, Eve, into ordinary scenes of everyday life. The spot, released with the Complete Edition on November 5, has drawn about two million views and a wave of jokey comments, according to Kotaku.
The commercial’s pitch is portability: on a Switch, players can take Stellar Blade with them. Kotaku, which counted about 100 seconds of running time, described scenes of Eve catching frisbees in a park, sharing sodas and showing her futuristic sword to commuters. Its centrepiece is a bedroom scene in which she tucks a grown man into bed and reads him a story. Nintendo Wire said the tagline is “Take Eve Everywhere.”
Mixed reactions to a throwback style
Nintendo Life said it had “so many questions” about the trailer, including why it uses a 4:3 aspect ratio. It still called the spot a fun, harmless ad and a big improvement on the AI-generated marketing Shift Up published for its sequel. Game*Spark reported that the video passed 1.4 million views in under a day, and that many viewers joked they wished they could take the place of the man being tucked in.
Kotaku’s Zack Kotzer, whose piece is commentary, said the ad is a throwback to the quirkier game commercials of past decades and called it charming in isolation. He also noted that the game has been a focus of online culture-war arguments since its 2024 release. Those views are Kotaku’s, not statements from Shift Up.
The AI question
Shift Up has faced criticism over generative AI in the marketing of Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, the sequel it revealed in June. Kotaku said the new ad avoids those concerns, and that Eve’s performer, Jade J, posted behind-the-scenes images suggesting the people in the commercial are real. iXBT reported that some viewers had briefly questioned whether the actress was AI-generated. That claim is a secondary report, and Shift Up has not commented on it in the sources reviewed.
What the Switch 2 edition includes
In a press release dated November 5, Shift Up said Stellar Blade Complete Edition launched globally on the Nintendo eShop, the title’s debut on a Nintendo console. It includes downloadable content from NieR:Automata and Goddess of Victory: Nikke, plus a Bayonetta collaboration with four new outfits that is also a free update on PlayStation 5 and PC. A free demo is available, and Joy-Con 2 motion controls are supported in some non-combat activities. Nintendo Life lists the price at $59.99.
Nintendo Life gave the Switch 2 version 7 out of 10 in its review, praising the combat and exploration while noting that visuals and performance are not as strong as it had hoped. The view counts and reactions above come from the outlets cited, and Eastern Herald has not verified them.
