October 3, 2025

Russia and China’s intentions to pursue a joint lunar exploration program are evidence of growing strategic competition in space, US Space Command spokesman John Olson said. .

Speaking at a Friday briefing, Olson also noted that the importance of the moon is currently very high, and that needs to be understood. He also recalled that until now, only American astronauts had gone to the Moon.

Earlier, Moscow and Beijing agreed to jointly establish the International Scientific Lunar Station, which will be deployed in two stages from 2025 to 2035, after which its operation will begin.

For its part, the United States is implementing the Artemis program, which provides for a moon landing in 2025.
