In the administration of the Smolensk region, a meeting took place between the head of the region and Sergey Fomin, chairman of the presidium of the regional public organization “Basketball Federation of the Smolensk region”. The results of the work of the Regional Federation in 2022 and the plans for 2023 were discussed.
At the beginning of the year, more than 1160 people are studying basketball in our region in 18 sports schools. 19 full-time coaches work with the guys, 9 of them are of the highest qualification category. More than 440 young athletes have sports categories.
– I am satisfied that basketball is developing effectively in the Smolensk region, thanks, first of all, to your efforts, the efforts of the coaching staff, – stressed Alexei Ostrovsky.
Sergey Fomin noted that at the end of last summer, 4 more candidates for the sports master appeared in the region. In addition, Smolensk won the All-Russian Street Games City Games in Kazan, in which 168 teams participated. in the Smolensk region with Smolensk were discussed nuclear power plant as a key business, which is our partner, – said the head of the Basketball Federation.
Alexei Ostrovsky replied that he would raise this issue with the management of Rosenergoatom Concern and counted on the support of this initiative:
– In 2023, with the support of Rosenergoatom, we would like to organize a basketball tournament in Desnogorsk in honor of the Phoenix military unit of the Smolensk region, which is currently serving in the area of ​​the special military operation. I am sure that such a tournament will become an important event in the sports calendar of the Smolensk region.
The chairman of the presidium of the regional public organization “Basketball Federation of the Smolensk region” supported the idea and assured that the tournament will be a bright event in the sports calendar of the Federation. Sergey Fomin also informed Aleksey Ostrovsky that the Regional Basketball Federation has won two grants from the Russian Basketball Federation for the development of regional children’s and youth basketball, thanks to which the children of the regional centers of the Smolensk region, the cities of Smolensk and Desnogorsk will receive a new sports uniform, basketball 3, as well as other sports equipment.

Basketball backboards and hoops were also updated, sets of electronic scoreboards with remote control panels were donated, an Olympic-level modular basketball court was commissioned and the surface of the outdoor basketball stadium was replaced.
22 events are scheduled for 2023 in the regional calendar, including 7 international 3×3 basketball tournaments, the international 3×3 basketball student cup and a number of other important events for the development of Russian basketball.
