Biden called Russia’s decision to suspend START participation a ‘big mistake’

February 22, 2023

US President Joe Biden has commented on Russia’s decision to suspend its participation in the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START). The American politician called Moscow’s decision a “big mistake”.
“It’s a big mistake,” Biden said during an extraordinary meeting with the Bucharest Nine countries.
On February 22, the Russian Federation Council unanimously approved a law suspending Russia’s participation in the New START treaty. Earlier, the State Duma passed a similar law. Despite the move, Moscow will abide by restrictions on the number of nuclear charge carriers, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Earlier, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin called on the US “not to play dumb”, accusing the country of destroying the architecture of international stability.
