October 4, 2025

Tigran Khachikyan, 50, who shot a riot policeman in St Petersburg, explained his action as a “protest” against the ban on gatherings. On this subject writing “Fontanka”.
According to the publication, after the arrest, Khachikyan “managed to talk about both the people who are being robbed and the gatherings they are unable to attend.” He also claimed that he had been planning an attack on the security forces for a long time.
It is unclear whether Khachikyan’s attack on riot police is linked to the anniversary of the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine. At the same time, Khachikyan, justifying his actions, did not mention the military conflict, notes Fontanka.
On the morning of February 24, Tigran Khachikyan fired a shot at a riot policeman in central St. Petersburg near the entrance to the Gostiny Dvor metro station. Judging by the pictures published telegram channel “112”, a man shot a security guard as he tried to arrest him. A total of two shots were fired. At the same time, before attacking the riot policeman, he threw the Great Patriotic War era song “Get up, the country is huge” from the column.
As Fontanka wrote, the security manager was injured in the stomach, he was hospitalized in serious condition. By data “112”, he was diagnosed with multiple open injuries to his abdomen, lower back and pelvis. A source of “Papers” in medical circles said that “if [омоновец] survives”, then it will be a “miracle”.
During Khachikyan’s detention, “a few sawed-off shotguns” were found in his bag (during interrogation, a man noted that they are two registered weapons) and two Molotov cocktails.
The commission of inquiry described the incident as an attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer (article 317 of the penal code). By data “Fontanki”, agents of the service for the protection of the constitutional order and the fight against terrorism were connected with the case, while it is possible that the case will be transferred to the FSB. In this case, the article can be reclassified as “terrorism” (article 205 of the penal code), notes the newspaper.
