European Union authorities have confirmed that the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) has been postponed to 2024.According to European Commission Representative for Home Affairs, Migration and Internal Security Anitta Hipper, the exact launch date of ETIAS will be announced later.Presenting the reasons why ETIAS has been delayed, Hipper told SchengenVisaInfo that ETIAS is developed in close collaboration with the Entry/Exit System (EES), which means that it can only come into effect on the first launch of EES, the exact date of which is new or not installed.Since 2016, the European Union has been working to modernize the EU’s border management system with systems such as ETIAS and EES, which will replace manual passport control with electronic checks, speed up queues and improve Security. The Commission says it is working closely with EU member states to minimize the impact of delays in the launch of the two systems.See also: Turkey strives to ensure continuity of tourism even amid devastating earthquakes.
