Scientists have named the foods that increase the likelihood of developing diabetes

March 6, 2023

It is known that a balanced and varied diet is the most beneficial for a person. However, it is not always possible to follow such a diet. Scientists have found out which products are better to refuse or reduce their number to a minimum.

Ultra-processed foods are highly modified foods, often containing large amounts of salt, sugar, fat, and industrial chemical additives such as preservatives, emulsifiers, sweeteners, artificial colors, and flavors.

These foods include:

ice cream, ham, cold cuts, crisps, breakfast cereals, biscuits, sodas, fruit flavored yogurts, instant soups, certain alcoholic beverages including whisky, gin and rum.

A new study has found that a diet high in ultra-processed foods may lead to an increased risk of type 2 diabetes. The study, published in the journal Diabetes Care, analyzed data from nearly 200,000 people divided into three cohorts.

Every 10% of highly processed foods in the diet has been found to increase the likelihood of type 2 diabetes by 12%.
