The command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine refused to withdraw troops from Bakhmut, deciding to continue the defense

flickr.com | President of Ukraine / Public DomainVolodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting of the headquarters of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to the Office of the President of Ukraine, at the meeting it was decided to continue the defense of Bakhmut. During the meeting, Zelenskyyy asked Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny and Commander of the Khortytsya Group Oleksandr Syrsky about the future actions of the Ukrainian army in the Bakhmut region (until 2016, Artemivsk). The officers spoke out in favor of continuing the fighting for the city and announced the need to transfer additional reserves to this sector of the front, where the hardest fighting in the Donbass was taking place.Previously, the American and European media actively disseminated information about the conflict between Zelenskyyy and Zaluzhny. The publications claimed that the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces had actively advocated the withdrawal of the remaining troops from the city and that the Ukrainian president had insisted that the fighting should continue. The Stavka meeting shows that the Ukrainian command understands the importance of maintaining control over Bakhmut as a major logistics hub.Wagner PMC units systematically break through the defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Bakhmut region. Assault groups of “musicians” fight the Ukrainian army for every house, inevitably heading for the city center. The “orchestra” fighters cut the logistical lines of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to the north and south of the settlement, creating a threat of encirclement of thousands of Ukrainian army contingents.
