Voronezh’s first deputy customs chief, Evgeny Filipenko, was arrested by law enforcement. He is suspected of having acquired drugs.
The customs press service confirmed that Filipenko was detained by employees of the department’s anti-corruption department and agents of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Voronezh region.
Izvestia reported that a 40-year-old senior official took a bookmark with drugs at night on Moskovsky Prospekt in the city of Voronezh. On March 3, when the colonel was arrested, they reportedly found a packet containing 1.18 grams of amphetamine inside him.
On this fact, a criminal case was opened on the grounds of the crime of “illegal acquisition and possession of drugs on a large scale” (part 2 of article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). This article provides for a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
The Voronezh Customs press service reported that Yevgeny Filipenko was fired from the department.
