Scary incident on Hverfisgatu in court

A man was convicted today in Reykjavík District Court for an incident at a club in Hverfisgatu in January 2020.
The man then held a knife to the stomach of another local guest so tightly that the man’s sweater was ripped off under the knife. In the redacted indictment, this is stated as follows:
“for a threat against A, id. (…), by having, on the night of Sunday January 12, 2020, the (…) Hverfisgatu (…) in Reykjavík, pointing a knife at the belly of A, but the threat served to cause him to fear for his life, health and well-being.”
The prelude to the attack was that two men approached the accused and asked him to pay a debt. He then reacted that way, and in fact, according to the men, he pulled out the knife when he saw them approaching, before they had a word about the debt.
However, the man, who pleaded not guilty, said the men threatened him over an alleged monetary debt. He reportedly fled the place but picked up a penknife outside the place without even opening it.
During police questioning after the incident, however, the man did not recognize that he had a knife on him and therefore claimed that the knife, which had been found during his search, had been placed in his clothes.
Doormen subdued the man inside the venue and kicked him out after the incident. In court, staff testified that the man pulled a knife inside the room.
He was therefore found guilty but received a light sentence, 30 days of probation. However, he has to pay his lawyer one million ISK in legal fees.
