The Ministry of Justice confirms the settlement of 50 arbitration cases during the past year

The Ministry of Justice confirmed that 50 arbitration cases were settled during the past year, with a completion rate of 100 percent, an increase of 16 percent, compared to 2021.

The Department of Arbitration Affairs at the Ministry of Justice stated, in its annual report for the year 2022, that the number of judgments issued in arbitration cases through the Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration reached 19 out of 50 judgments issued last year, with a rate of 38 percent of the total judgments issued in 2022. The report added that the number of judgments issued per month ranged between one and ten judgments per month, with an average of 4 judgments, indicating that the highest number of judgments during the past year was issued in November with a total of 10 judgments.

He pointed out that most of the areas of dispute between the parties to arbitration focused on contracting and subcontracting contracts with a rate of 24 percent of the total cases, and the institutional rulings constituted 58 percent of the total rulings currently documented, while the free rulings accounted for 42 percent.

The report indicated that judgments issued in English amounted to 47 percent of the total documented judgments, while judgments issued in Arabic were estimated at 53 percent of the total judgments. Foreign courts in which both parties are foreigners or one party is foreign, 18 percent of the total notarized judgments. The report recorded the shortest period for the arbitration process during which the judgment was issued, which was one month, while the longest period during which the arbitral award was issued in the dispute was four years.
