Today, as part of the “Qatar Creates” week, two exhibitions opened at the Fire Station – the first artists’ headquarters, entitled "picnic 88"and the second "Curators Residency Program 2023"And they will continue until next May 14 in Gallery 3 and Gallery 4 at the Fire Station.
Gallery includes "picnic 88" Artist Anfal Al-Kandari on a 3D installation, drawing inspiration from her childhood memories, and highlighting her nostalgia using vibrant colors and gestural drawings. While the co-show sheds "Curators Residency Program 2023" Highlighting the work of the artist Ahmed Suleiman from Egypt, entitled "The sun and its bright rays"which are paintings that reflect the diversity of plants in Qatar, and the artist Abdullah Al-Mutairi from Kuwait, and presents scanned images and handwritten documents in his works.
Khalifa Ahmed Al-Obaidly, Director of Fire Station: Artists’ Residence, praised the role of exhibitions in highlighting the diverse talents and creative vision of artists, which are part of the Art Residency Program and the Curators’ Residency Program, organized by Fire Station: Artists’ Residence, with the aim of supporting creative production.
It is noteworthy that the artist Anfal Al-Kandari participated in the Fire Station program for artistic residency at the International City of Arts in Paris (2022). The curatorial residency program was launched in 2020, and includes a three-month residency at the Fire Station. The Fire Station hosted 4 curators during the years 2022 and 2023, in cooperation with the Qatar Year of Culture – Middle East, North Africa and South Asia. The “Qatar Creates” initiative, launched by Qatar Museums in 2019, represents a comprehensive, long-term cultural movement that enriches the diversity of creative activities in Qatar.
